Job Summary


Under the direction of the Director for Math and Science Support Center, teach workshops and unit-bearing workload classes in subject areas as assigned; classes and workshops range from beginning algebra through multi-variable calculus. Teach classes in summer bridge (Special Transitional Enrichment Program) that support EOP, underrepresented, first generation, and low-income students at the university. The essential responsibility of this position include providing direct academic assistance to students. Additional duties include curriculum design, outreach and professional development, training, and evaluation of services. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent teaching experience in mathematics.Experience in developing mathematics or science curricula.Experience teaching college-level math (for example: college algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, etc.)Knowledge of mathematics through advanced analysis, abstract algebra, and calculus, as well as thorough knowledge of current materials available and principles involved in mathematics pedagogy for maximizing student involvement.Skills to clearly explain mathematical concepts and to assist students in acquiring problem-solving strategies and skills including skills to adopt alternative approaches in both group and one-on-one situations to meet students' learning needs and skill levels.Interpersonal skills to communicate and establish effective working relationships with individuals of varying skill levels, cultural backgrounds and perspectives, which includes the interpersonal skills to work effectively and collegially with other staff and with supervisors.Written communication skills to prepare clear, accurate documents and reports using standard computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and Internet browsers. Oral skills to communicate in person and by phone.Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree or a teaching credential in a related field.Experience teaching Beginning Algebra through Calculus to college students.Experience tutoring both individuals and groups of students.Key Responsibilities
