At the Y, you can discover your passion and a lifelong career helping to solve some of the nation's most pressing social issues.About the JobUnder the supervision of the Site Director, the Student Success Advocate (SSA) works closely with the Student Support team to provide counseling, case management, and outreach services to youth and families, as well as serving as a Program Leader during the afterschool program. SSA will provide case management services to up to 20 middle school students throughout the school year, in addition to students in need of drop-in support or crisis intervention. The SSA will also be part of the 8th Grade Level Community to best support students with paths to High School. Provide at least one weekly support group for 7th and 8th grade female students. Services include intake, assessment, goal setting and plan development, advocacy, and referrals to appropriate resources and therapeutic support. The SSA is responsible for completing paperwork including ongoing progress notes, quarterly evaluations, and intake and closing documentation. Lastly, the SSA will work collaboratively with the Beacon team to plan and attend school and community events, trainings, programs, and workshops.The Student Success Advocate must be available Monday-Friday during school hours. Hours may vary slightly in accordance with the SFUSD calendar and program needs, including some nights and weekends. The Student Success Advocate is not scheduled to work during the SFUSD holidays during the school year, including Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks except in the case of mandatory YMCA training.Minimum Qualifications

  • 21+ Years old
  • BA/BS in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field; or 3+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Must be available Monday-Friday, 11:00am-7:00pm, occasional nights and weekends
  • Previous experience in mentoring, group facilitation, truancy interventions, collaboration with teachers and school personnel, and familiarity with school services and interventions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A passion for social justice and knowledge of the challenges faced by low-income San Francisco residents, and a desire to make a difference with this population
  • Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio-economic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds
  • Must be a talented multi-tasker and an independent worker who is adept at working on a team, thrives in a start-up environment, and maintains a flexible and positive attitude.
  • Must have the ability to develop positive relationships with youth, adults, parents, staff, teachers, administration, the Y and community members
  • Understanding of community- and school-based programming based upon Youth Development Practices & Principles, the Common Core State Standards, and Restorative Practices
  • Familiarity with various office computer programs, including Microsoft Suite and Google products
  • Excellent organizational skills and multi-project/multi-task oriented, including experience scheduling and coordinating multiple fun and education-focused activities for youth
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date
  • TB test clearance
  • Fingerprint background check clearancePreferred Qualifications
    • Master's Degree in related field
    • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Tagalog
    • 3+ years of experience working with multi-ethnic, multicultural high school youth
    • Understanding and experience with Trauma-Informed Systems in a school settingAll employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationship over minors.
